At Mountain Phoenix Coffee one of the most important aspects of our coffee is that we strive to purchase only 100% Organic and Fair-Trade Coffee. We just don’t want our coffee to be great. We also want our coffee to be sustainably grown, without pesticides, and for our farmers to obtain a Fair Wage. You, the customer, should always have as much information as possible on the coffee you are enjoying.
Under normal circumstances we do this all year, every year.
Unfortunately, due to the delay of many coffees at origin, we will need to purchase a few conventional coffees this year. Those coffees will still be purchased from quality farms, though they are not “certified” Organic. All the conventional coffees will also still be fully traceable for you, the customer! These will begin arriving in May 2022, and we will adjust our ordering profiles and tracing as they arrive. Guatemala, Brazil and Ethiopian Naturals seem to be our only conventional purchases for this year.
Currently, Mountain Phoenix purchases all of our coffee through Royal Coffee Trading, based out of Emeryville, CA. In the past, we tried different Importers, and none to us were as impressive and carried the quality that Royal Coffee does. We have worked with our broker, Laurel Wirth, for over a decade, to the point that although we have actually never had the chance to meet in person, together we have developed a coffee tasting language, where I know exactly the coffee I am getting!
Most of our coffee is pre-purchased three months in advance, arriving to us when called upon.
