Mountain Phoenix Coffee cupping update
MOUNTAIN PHOENIX UPDATES:
Winter is definitley on the way here in Salida, and Monarch Mountain is slated to open this Friday!
Well, after another great day of cupping, I thought I would let you all in on what is happening in the coffee world.
This week, without a doubt, the Mexican “Rancho San Francisco”, really came to the forefront of the cupping table. The Mexican bean just seems to be hitting perfectly right now with lots of body, and a great spicy overtone that floats through the whole cup. All these coffee’s are so good right now, it really is hard to pick one over the other, but boy is the Mexican amazing right now! The other prize winners this week are also the Papua New Guinea and the Ethiopian Yirgacheffe.
Two weeks ago, I also started initial work on a new espresso blend that I plan on rolling out sometime next week for the cafe and website, as well as our wholesale accounts. The new espresso has been pouring great out of our La Marzocco espresso machine, and has a little more chocolate fruit taste in the crema than before. For me, this is the best part of the job: Taking coffee’s that were already good, then refining them with new roasting techniques, new profiles, and ALOT of cupping and tasting! Coffee roasting is always an ongoing process of seeking out perfection in every part of the process, then knowing all your hard work has been worth it when you hear a customer say,” That’s the best cup of coffee I have ever had!”.
SACRED GROUND UPDATES:
With winter arriving and Christmas around the corner, we will be rolling out our winter drink menu December 8th, with lots of goodies to choose from! If you have never stopped in for our world famous Egg-Nog latte with loads of whipped cream and nutmeg, then you simply must try one! We will also have our usual array of peppermint lattes, as well as a couple new creations that we always seem to think up.
Starting Tuesday, we will also feature our DOUBLE PUNCH TUESDAY program, where you get two punches on your customer card, for every coffee bought! We are also offering $2.00 lattes every Friday after 2:30 p.m. to make sure you finish the week in great spirits!
Stay tuned for next week, when we have more coffee to talk about, and also some thoughts I have on the Organic certification process. Boy, is THAT going to be a long blog!
